From left to right Tattoo Russ, Big Ed Gorby and myself

Ray’s tattoo journey started years ago with curiosity, but in 2013 he decided to take it seriously and dive deep into the fundamentals of tattooing. He was fortunate enough to apprentice under the late Big Ed Gorby a legend in the industry and recipient of the National Tattoo Association’s Bob Shaw Award. Ray also had the privilege of learning from and tattooing alongside Tattoo Russ, both of whom shaped his foundation and sharpened his craft.
Through their guidance, Ray embraced the precision of West Coast fine-line black and grey work, blending it seamlessly with his own raw street-style influence. In 2016, he officially earned his apprenticeship through LA Tattooing with Big Ed’s mentorship a milestone that gave him both skill and confidence to build his own path.
That path led to the creation of Lowcountry Ink Tattoos, where Ray continues to push his artistry forward. Since opening, the shop has been recognized as Best Tattoo Shop two years in a row, a reflection of Ray’s dedication and the loyal support of clients who believe in his work.
Now proudly serving the Lowcountry, Ray invites you to check out his portfolio and book your next piece. Whether you want bold custom ink or fine-line detail, you can count on his passion, precision, and years of experience to bring your vision to life.

Dayton began his career as a welder, but his passion for art was always waiting for the right outlet. When Ray extended the invitation to apprentice, he seized the chance to pursue tattooing and hasn’t looked back since.
Under Ray’s guidance, Dayton is quickly evolving into a skilled tattoo artist, earning recognition for his precision and dedication. His specialty lies in fine line tattoos, where his steady hand and eye for detail truly shine.
As his journey continues at Lowcountry Ink Tattoos, Dayton is carving out a name for himself and proving that with hard work and creativity, the transition from metal to skin can create something extraordinary.
